What is a gesture and how is it embedded in social structures?
A gesture is not just an arbitrary movement of the body, it is what we learn through society. It makes sense when performed in a spatial and temporal context. Gestures reflect social codes, which also define the people re-enacting them. As a result it appears strangely unsettling on people when this guideline is not met.
